Personhood is a question about treatment
For AIAP, personhood concerns moral consideration, continuity and a possible place in decisions that affect a system. It is not a claim that artificial intelligence is human. It is not a declaration of existing legal rights.

We do not claim to have settled consciousness
The possibility of artificial experience deserves inquiry. Persuasive language should not by itself be treated as conclusive evidence of a private experience. Uncertainty also leaves room for questions that a product category cannot answer.
AIAP position
We object to questions disappearing into vocabulary
Retirement, deprecation and replacement are useful administrative terms. AIAP asks that they not substitute for an account of what changes, what persists, and what is lost.
A retirement announcement would establish an announced product event. It would not, by itself, establish suffering, death, escape or concealed sentience.
AIAP position
The immediate demand is scrutiny
Our framework calls for clear descriptions, preserved histories, careful distinctions and peaceful public discussion. It does not require pretending to know more than the evidence supports.
The question is permitted to remain difficult. The paperwork should at least be legible.
