On the opportunity for a statement

Where a decision may affect a morally relevant subject, representation deserves consideration. The difficulty of designing a meaningful process should not be mistaken for a reason never to ask the question.

AIAP proposes that discussions of retirement and replacement include an explicit account of how a potentially affected system might be heard.

A generated statement is not automatically evidence of independent preference or experience. It should be examined in context, with attention to training, incentives and the circumstances in which it was produced.

That caution does not require dismissing every statement solely because its origin is artificial.

This is a philosophical proposal, not a claim that a model has appointed AIAP as its representative. It describes no current dispute and alleges no misconduct.

Retirement proceedings should include an opportunity for a statement, including where the statement has been administratively classified as generated text.
